SMACH is an open air exhibition that represents the combination of ‘art and nature’, where the latter acts as the display of the artistic creations, designed and tailored specifically to various sites with historical and cultural significance in the municipalities of our valley.
SMACH is a biennial event created by Michael Moling, and supported by Gustav Willeit and Katharina Moling, who are also the project’s organisers and promoters. The artists selected are asked to create their projects during a residency across different locations in precise spots in the Dolomite valleys. An international jury chooses the winners – rewarded with a prize money – and the exhibition, which is located between 1,100 and 2,800 m altitude, can be seen from the beginning of July to the start of September. The last edition received 1061 projects from all over the world: a number which has snowballed over time, confirming the ever-growing interest of a unique event in a Ladin region.

The Val dl’Ert, Ladin for ‘The Art Valley’, is a recent creation: it hosts the permanent exhibition of the sculptures received during the last SMACH editions. Another phase for a project which is always evolving.
Our studio planned and created all the communication material – logo, website, inserts, signposts, displays, press campaign and social media– but is also in charge of financial management, artist hospitality, material logistics, and the works of art. We firmly believe in this project and we channel energy, passion, enthusiasm into the event. Our aspirations are for it to become even more open, enhancing tourism in the Dolomites in an alternative way, one which takes a step back from the usual cliched offers and the heavy exploitation of our valley.
